life and death

when I first saw this image, I thought it was the carcass of a bird potisitoned and scanned. It is actually a photograph of the bird in mid-flight. by using a fast shutter speed he froze the bird in time creating a stillness more referent of death than flight. the shadows and highlights on the bird are very visually stunning, however, it looks a bit obvious that he darkened out the rest of the image surrounding the bird. it is a very flat black (which is why I originally thought this was made with a scanner not a camera)

Alter Ego

I came across this photo whileI was looking for inspiration for our Alter Ego project. The quality of the image is lacking, but I like it conceptually; The firgures are curiously placed, the "Ego" hovers over the figure in an awkwardly ominous manner, while the "self" figure is half-conscious of its presence.

the cropping of this photograph is mainly what makes this an interesting photograph. The veiwer is given just enough information to be intrigued. I think the image seems a little over exposed though. but I enjoy the natural lighting, the extreme verticality of the cropping also adds to the dynamism of the image.

Benoit Paille

This is a very dramatic image, in both it's lighting and the subject matter. The figure has alot of emotion but because he is placed in an odd way, the image still has alot of humor to it.
